JANE Eyre will dance into audiences’ hearts in Northern Ballet’s stage adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel.

The production, which was unveiled to great acclaim in Charlotte’s bicentennial year, will be performed at Leeds Grand Theatre from March 7 to 14.

Northern Ballet is beginning its 2018 touring season at the theatre with the show, along with a triple bill of short ballets by internationally renowned choreographer Kenneth MacMillan, which are rarely performed outside London.

After Jane Eyre premièred in 2016 – during the 200th anniversary year of Charlotte Brontë’s birth – it was nominated for a South Bank Sky Arts Award.

Following one of literature’s most iconic heroines as she fights to find her independence and happiness, Jane Eyre is choreographed by acclaimed British dance maker Cathy Marston.

It is set to a score of original and existing compositions arranged by composer Philip Feeney and played live at every performance by Northern Ballet Sinfonia.

Sets and costumes are designed by Patrick Kinmonth and lighting is designed by Alastair West.

Following nine performance of Jane Eyre, Northern Ballet will present a triple bill featuring Kenneth MacMillan’s Las Hermanas, Concerto and Gloria for three performances on March 16 and 17.

A Northern Ballet spokesman said the three works showcased the company’s dramatic and technical strengths in some of MacMillan’s most famous works, which are performed by leading ballet companies around the world.

She said: “Las Hermanas is a tense psychological drama telling the story of five sisters living under the tyrannical rule of their mother; Concerto is a dazzling classical showpiece guaranteed to thrill; and Gloria is a deeply moving and haunting tribute to the fallen of World War I.”

Royal Ballet star Zenaida Yanowsky, described as one of the most exquisite dancers of her generation, will be a guest artist for the Kenneth Miller triple bill.

Yanowsky became a principal dancer that Royal Ballet in 2001 and has performed in all the company’s major works to critical acclaim; most recently winning the National Dance Award for Outstanding Female Performance (Classical) in 2016.

David Nixon OBE, Artistic Director of Northern Ballet said: ‘I am delighted that the wonderful dancer Zenaida Yanowsky will be joining Northern Ballet to perform with us as Guest Artist for the first time. “It is an incredible and rare treat for our home audiences in Leeds to see this programme of work by Sir Kenneth MacMillan.”
