A COMEDY derived from a successful TV series is the latest offering from Weeton & Huby Players.

Writer Eric Chappell based False Pretences on his series The Bounder starring Peter Bowles and George Cole

The action is based around the activities of conman Victor Blake played by WHP veteran Chris Holland, whose antics cause hilarious mistrust and confusion.

False Pretences marks the directorial debut of WHP regular Alison Muffitt, supported by experienced producer Pauline Moulsdale.

Will Oakley is also making his debut playing Victor’s dubious sidekick and would-be artist Soapy Simpson.

The cast features Neil Muffitt as the long-suffering estate agent Kevin Bunce ; award-winning actress Heather Goring as his wife Valerie; Neve Carey as Lucy, the subject of Victor’s latest money-making scheme; Mike Harris as Turner the bank manager with Ben Lock making a return to the Huby stage as jeweller Toby Rogers.

Alison Muffitt said: “After appearing in several Weeton & Huby productions over the past decade I wanted to try my hand at directing.

“ It’s been a rewarding experience working with a talented cast of regulars and newcomers. I’m sure audiences will appreciate this well crafted comedy by an acknowledged writer. We’re certainly having great fund doing it.”

False Pretences will be staged at Almscliffe Village Hall, Huby, near Otley, on November 23-25 at 7.45pm.
