AN ILKLEY hairdresser has released her second book The Informed Client aimed at anyone with a head of hair - including men - who want to achieve 'hair nirvana'.

It is a first mainstream book for industry author and educator with over 18 years experience, Alexandra Girling, who also works at one of Ilkley's most established Salons, Harvey and Co.

With the average life-time expenditure on hair for a woman standing at an estimated £37,000 The Informed Client aims to give readers the closely guarded secrets of the hairdressing industry to ensure their never leave a salon unhappy again.

Loaded with practical advice, the book contains a comprehensive glossary of salon terminology, the truth behind the ingredients in your hair care regime, as well as the tell-tale signs of spotting a good hairdresser in a new area. Tips include how to keep your blow-dry looking fresher for longer, tips to compliment your own skin tone and facial features and understanding the intricacies of the colouring process.
