The Bramhope Summer Festival is in full swing.

The first events, a play, a murder mystery and an afternoon tea/entertainment have already taken place and been highly successful.

It wouldn't be a Summer Festival without the ever popular Cabaret evening, this year featuring Jenny Smith who joins guitarist Derrick Harris, Andy Chorleton on organ and Paul Smith on drums at Bramhope Village Hall on June 17 at 7.30 pm. There is a licensed bar. Tickets are £10 from foxatwestbreary@gmail.com or on 0113 267 4360. Normally a sell-out, it is wise to book early.

At the age of six Jenny won first prize at a local singing competition and a few years later graduated from Leeds College of Music with a BA in Jazz Studies. Twice nominated for Singer of the Year by Jazz Yorkshire, Jenny can be heard on several recordings.

Derrick Harris has appeared frequently on radio and television and in the West End and touring productions of shows such as Les Miserables, Chicago and Blood Brothers. He has accompanied artists as diverse as Jack Jones, Gene Pitney, Mel B, Lesley Garrett and Claire Martin, as well as appearing frequently with the Halle Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

The two churches, Bramhope Village Hall and Bramhope WI are all putting on events as part of the Festival. St Giles Church is hosting an afternoon with the Leeds Central Band of the Salvation Army on June 10 at 2pm and a "Call My Bluff" wine and cheese evening on July 1.

Bramhope WI is to hold an Afternoon tea at the Village Hall at 3pm on June 24. This is a splendid occasion where delicious delicacies can be sampled in a beautiful setting.

Councillor Diane Fox is leading a History Walk around Bramhope on Sunday, June 11 at 2pm starting at the Puritan Chapel. Diane is covering different aspects of the history of Bramhope, with particular focus on Bramhope in the 1901 census. The event is free.

Last but not least, Bramhope Royal British Legion will be hosting the ever popular Brass Band Concert at West Park Rugby Club on July 29 from 7.30pm.

It is remarkable that so much effort is made throughout the village to put on entertainment for residents and visitors. Come along and make the most of the summer in Bramhope.
