THE Summer Bands series returns to the parks of Leeds, hosting entertainment from the region’s best brass, jazz and concert bands.

The arrival of the Summer Bands in Leeds Parks series marks the beginning of summer at Leeds International Concert Series, and this year is the biggest series yet. Every Sunday from the beginning of May until the end of September, the parks and bandstands of the city will resound to the music of local brass, jazz and concert bands with the Summer Bands in Leeds Parks series. Concerts are from 2.30pm to 4.30pm and are absolutely free.

This year’s season includes 100 concerts with over 45 different ensembles performing. Winners of 2009 Yorkshire Area 1st Section Wakefield Metropolitan Band feature in the series, as well as local jazz-fusion outfit Bassa Bassa, the outstanding jazz ensemble After Hours Quintet and many more – there really is something for everyone in this series. The 27 parks involved include: Bramley, Burley, Dartmouth – Morley, Farnley Hall, Gledhow Valley Woods, Golden Acre, Horsforth Hall, Lotherton Hall, Meanwood, New Farnley Recreation Ground, New Wortley Recreation Ground, Pudsey, Roundhay Park, Tarnfield – Yeadon, Temple Newsam, Victoria Park – Calverley, Western Flatts Cliff – Wortley, Wetherby, and Wharfemeadows Park – Otley.
