THE irresistibly warm-hearted Japanese film Our Little Sister is Ilkley Film Society's next screening on Sunday, April 9 (8pm, Ilkley Playhouse).

When three adult sisters travel to the funeral of their father, whom they hadn't seen since he left their mother 15 years earlier, they find he has a 14 year-old daughter, Suzu, by his second wife. Charmed by the girl's modesty and kindness, and shocked by the mother's lack of concern for her, the women invite Suzu to come and live with them. They find that her memories of their father are very different from theirs, and Suzu's presence begins to heal wounds from a painful past.

Director Hirokazu Koreeda's delicate and sensitive film never strays into sentimentality, and results in one of the most delightful films of the year, guaranteed to make an audience glow. All four actresses were nominated for Japanese Academy Awards for their performances.
