CELEBRATED folk band The Shee will perform songs from a special anniversary album in Otley next month.

The six-piece, whose work is inspired by Scottish Folk, Gaelic song, Bluegrass and Scandinavian music will play at the Courthouse on Monday, April 10.

The band consists of six young female folk musicians who met while studying Folk Music at Newcastle University.

Their line-up includes accordionist Amy Thatcher, a well-known member of Kathryn Tickell’s band The Side, and Rachel Newton - harpist with The Furrow Collective, who won Musician of the Year at the 2016 Scottish Folk Awards.

They are joined by Lillias Kinsman-Blake, Shona Mooney, Olivia Ross, and Laura-Beth Salter who add twin fiddles, flute, mandolin and vocals.

Last year was the group's tenth anniversary and to mark the occasion they created a special album by inviting six of Britain’s greatest folk musicians to write a new song for it.

The result, Continuum, features pieces pieces written by Karine Polwart, Brian Finnegan, Chris Wood, Kathryn Tickell, Martin Simpson and Andy Cutting alongside four compositions by The Shee themselves.

The album was previewed at last year’s Celtic Connections where it went down a storm, and has attracted glowing reviews.

The Shee will be be continuing their Continuum tour when they take the stage at the Courthouse on April 10.

The show starts at 8pm and tickets cost £12.50 or £11 for concessions.

They can be booked by visiting otleycourthouse.org.uk, calling (01943) 467466 or popping into the Courthouse.
