IN such a short space of time at Ilkley Cinema, we feel like we've achieved so much and are proud of every step we've taken. But to be honoured with not one but two prizes at the Ilkley Business Awards is beyond our wildest dreams, and we cannot thank you all enough for believing in this wonderful little venue. We couldn't have possibly achieved this without you!

From March 10th-16th, we celebrate in typical fashion with some of the understated, award winning films of the season. Joining us is Best Picture Oscar winner Moonlight, where we follow the story of troubled black youth Chiron growing up in a tough neighbourhood in Miami. Facing bullies, drug abuse and coming to terms with his own sexuality is a struggle for Chiron and is portrayed with compassion and a sense of realism that runs deep to your core. This is groundbreaking cinema, surely one not to miss!

Cinema has always had a way of touching our hearts with breathtaking real life stories, and none more so than with Loving. In 1950's Virginia, Richard and Mildred fell in love, purely and simply and blessed their union by becoming husband and wife. But at a time when interracial marriage was outlawed, the couple were arrested and sentenced for their crime. But how can love be a crime? This very question took their courageous story to the Supreme Court and ultimately changed the face of American marriage laws.

Female empowerment comes storming into the mix in witty comedy 20th Century Women. Californian mother Dorothea enlists a free-spirited clan of a punk artist and a provocative young girl to help raise her teenage son during the height of cultural change and rebellion in the 1970's.

Finally, for something completely different, we have the quirky and hysterical German comedy Toni Erdmann. As a father, what can you do when your workaholic daughter doesn't have any interest in spending time with you? By creating an outrageous alter-ego and pose as her CEO's life coach of course!
