THIS week, from January 6 - 12, we celebrate true stories of bravery, adversity and empowerment from our recent history and beyond.

We all remember the miraculous day when Flight 1549 was grounded in the Hudson River almost seven years ago, saving every life on board. Now the heroic events of the eponymous Captain Sullenberger have been humbly captured in the eyes of perfectly cast hero, Tom Hanks. We find out the aftermath of this extraordinary day, where questions and inquiries into the emergency threaten to deface the reputation and career of an ordinary man, just trying to do his job in Sully.

We’ve all heard the saying ‘love conquers all’, and really wondered if it rings true. But honestly, there is no better way to describe A United Kingdom. In the late 1940’s, future King of Botswana Seretse Khama shocked the world by marrying British white woman Ruth Williams in the harrowing days of apartheid. Overcoming disapproval from family, governments across the world and eventually exile are only a handful of hardships that this loving couple have to endure in this shocking piece of our history, rightfully brought to our attention at last.

Eagle Hunting is a time honoured tradition in Mongolian culture, one that is passed from generation to generation, from father to son. But this exclusively male custom doesn’t stop the determined, capable young woman Aisholpan from being just as talented as her male counterparts in documentary The Eagle Huntress. Fighting against the vehement rejection of older generations in her culture, her father encourages young Aisholpan, believing that being girl shouldn’t hold her back. And at just 13 years old, this amazing teenager is showing her ever-growing skills and breaking boundaries everywhere she goes.

Rogue One remains a proud feature of our line-up and while the love for this film is strong, there is a little hole in our heart left behind for our fallen Princess.
