CHRISTMAS is the most magical time of the year, so we thought there was no better time to show films about wizards, aliens and rather astonishing creatures. From December 2 to 8, we have the latest mystical adventure Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the mystery sci-fi Arrival.

It’s been five years since we were left with a Harry Potter shaped void in our lives and a little part of us hoped that this wouldn’t be the end of J K Rowling’s wizarding world. Luckily for us, Rowling’s vivid imagination couldn’t possibly leave such an enchanting creation behind and now a new generation of witches and wizards has been brought to life!

Eddie Redmayne astounds as the quirky, bumbling wizard Newt Scamander, who has spent a good portion of his days collecting extraordinary creatures from across the globe. All he has to do is safely stopover in New York before departing to Arizona, simple right? When his mysterious suitcase goes missing, and along with it some of the whimsical creatures inside it, it is up to the magically proficient and No Maj’s, Muggles to you and I, alike to save the world from these fantastic beasts!

As far as alien contact films go, Arrival breaks the mould with understated intelligence. No need for attention grabbing violence, top linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) is recruited to reason with Earth’s newest visitors when pod-like UFOs descend across the planet. Time is running out however, as every country has their own ideas of what the aliens want and how to stop them, by any means necessary. Can the world leaders come together for once to find out what these extra-terrestrials really want and stop global catastrophe?

It certainly is a beautiful night, well morning with our Kid’s club film this week as we revive Disney’s 1955 cute, canine classic The Lady and the Tramp. When a lovingly pampered cocker spaniel meets a freewheeling mutt with a heart of gold, the most wonderful of adventures are had!
