AWARDING-WINNING young musician Daniel Thomas will be the special guest performer at the annual Aireborough Rotary Brass Band Concert.

Euphonium player Daniel, is the winner of the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award and is a member of the Black Dyke Band. He is now studying for a BMus at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Daniel was invited to take part in the Rotary concert by conductor and broadcaster Frank Renton.

Also performing is the Hepworth Band, which has enjoyed a successful year, taking the title at the Brass at the Guild Festival at Preston Guild Hall and finishing 3rd at the Yorkshire Regional Championships and the Grand Shield.

The programme for the evening will also pay tribute to John Armstrong, who died in June, and who was a Past President of both the Bradford and Aireborough Rotary Clubs. John first invited Frank to present the annual concert more than 12 years ago, and this year's event will include some of his favourite pieces.

The concert will take place at Yeadon Town Hall at 7.30pm on Friday, October 21. Tickets cost £12 and include a programme. They can be obtained from 01943 884075 or 0759 9557410.

Earlier this year Frank Renton was presented with an honorary degree at the annual graduation ceremony at Wembley Stadium of the University of West London (UWL)’s London College of Music. He received the award in recognition of his career in music.

He said: "It gives me tremendous pleasure to accept this honorary award for having spent a lifetime doing something that I love. My many years in military music proved to be most enjoyable with the last five years as the Army’s Principal Director of Music a rare privilege."
