WITH the summer holidays fast approaching Otley Courthouse has some great films lined up to keep everyone entertained.

On Saturday, July 2, at 7.30pm, Otley Film Society will be showing All Quiet on the Western Front (1930). In March 1916 the Leeds Pals landed in France, joining the British build up for the Battle of the Somme. Director Lewis Milestone's brilliant anti-war polemic, headlined by an unforgettable performance from Lew Ayres, lays bare the tragic foolishness at the heart of war. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Otley Walking Festival, Otley Film Society have organised a screening of this film to follow a walk from Masham (where Leeds Pals recruits would have disembarked from their train) up to the Leeds Pals' training camp in Colsterdale, during the day. Details of how to join the walk will be on otleywalkingfestival.co.uk. This is a rare opportunity to see this 1930s classic film on the big screen.

Our movie matinee season continues on Thursday, July 7 with Suffragette (2015) 12A. After a sell out screening back in January, this film is back by popular demand for an additional screening. The film tells the inspirational story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement who risked everything in the fight for equality. Stars; Carey Mulligan, Anne-Marie Duff, Helena Bonham Carter

Then on Thursday, August 4 as part of Yorkshire week we will be screening two films. At 2pm we will be showing Dad's Army (2016) PG, 100 mins. This hilarious comedy with roles now taken by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Daniel Mays, Bill Nighy, was filmed mainly in Bridlington. Then at 7.45pm, Otley Film Society will be screening The Full Monty (1997) 15, starring Robert Carlyle, & Tom Wilkinson. An appropriate Sheffield based film at this time of crisis in the steel industry.

Tickets for all movies are £4. Movie matinees include free tea/coffee and biscuits from 1.30pm with the film starting at 2pm. Film Society screenings begin at 7.45pm

Tickets for these events can be booked in advance by going online at www.otleycourthouse.org.uk, calling the box office on 01943 467466 or by popping into the Courthouse on Courthouse Street, Otley.
