ILKLEY'S Box Tree restaurant was one of three Yorkshire restaurants featured in The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants, supplement, which was published on November 8.

The list is compiled by The Sunday Times in association with Harden’s – now in its sixth annual edition, it is based on 63,000 reviews from almost 7,000 diners.

The Yorke Arms in Ramsgill in Nidderdale features on the list for the sixth consecutive year. Head chef Frances Atkins remains one of the few female chefs on the list. Black Swan in Oldstead is helmed by Tommy Banks, the youngest head chef in The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants at just 26 years old.

Yorkshire’s third and final entry The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants is The Box Tree in Ilkley. The restaurant, which originally opened in 1962, serves classic French cuisine, with signature dishes such as Waterford Farm fillet of beef, fricassee of wild mushrooms, and roast foie gras.

Editor of The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants, Karen Robinson, said: “The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants combines the opinions of thousands of diners to produce a definitive list. Basing it on the ratings of everyday restaurant-goers, who are paying their own money, means it is an honest reflection of the nation’s tastes, so chefs and restaurants should be truly proud to make the list.”

*Another Ilkley business Friends of Ham is celebrating the launch of a new book.

Ham's Tales contains recipes from the Friends of Ham kitchens in Leeds and Ilkley along with staff tips and recommendations like caring for your cheese at home and why you should eat the rind of cheese.

A handcrafted book bound in parchment paper with butcher’s string, Ham's Tales is available from December 1 and is launched alongside a Christmas gift range, including cheeses, whole salamis, ports, sherries, panettones, Friends of Ham merchandise and hampers.

You can make your own hamper or choose from Friends of Ham selected delights such as the Spanish Hamper or the British Beers Hamper. Also available will be boxed sets of beers themed around Christmas, Yorkshire and Beer Styles.

Co-owner Claire Kitching commented "I have wanted Friends of Ham to have its own little book for a while now. The great relationship we have with our customers, the interest in our products and the passion of the team for our produce lends itself to us sharing what we know and love. I'm really proud of Ham's Tales and hope this will be the first of many books to come from the Ham Kitchen."
