Otley Courthouse will host its first sold-out show of 2014 tonight.

North Country Theatre’s dramatic retelling of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1912 novel, The Lost World, has obviously proved a hit with the public.

There are no tickets left for the performance tomorrow, Friday, at the Courthouse and centre manager Chloe Perry is delighted the new season is already picking up where the successful last one ended.

She said: “It is with great pride that we welcome North Country Theatre back to the Courthouse. To have a local company bring such a great show into town and for it to sell out so far in advance is really great.

“We have a lot of fantastic theatrical events this season, so if people have missed on out tickets for North Country Theatre there are some available for our other fantastic shows.”

The Lost World tells the tale of an expedition to the Amazon basin of South America, where prehistoric animals and dinosaurs still survive.

Each member of the expedition approaches the adventure with their own motives, until they are drawn together by a series of unexpected and unpredictable events.

The Courthouse has a varied programme of attractions for its spring season and on consecutive Fridays in March will present three very different theatrical experiences – Contact Theatre’s one woman production of The Novice Detective (on March 7); AJTC and York Theatre Royal’s children’s production, The Bin Men (March 14); and Red Ladder’s new production, Wrong ‘Un: A Suffragette’s Story (March 21).

Then, on Saturday, March 29, the venue will mark the centenary of the First World War with Standing In Line, which tells of story of Albert Scrimshaw, who died at Passchendaele.

The season’s dramatic finale will be a family-focused production of The Jungle Book, on Friday, April 11, when ten lucky children will get the chance to become performers for the afternoon.
