ADDINGHAM-BASED publisher, Beast In Show Books, has taken this year’s prestigious People’s Book Prize (Children’s Category) for their first title, Bernard, by Rob Jones.
The winners were announced on May 27 during a black tie dinner at Stationers’ Hall, London, and the whole event was broadcast by Sky News.
Rob Jones’s picture book is the tale of a misunderstood wild hound who roams the moors. Feared by local villagers who believe he wishes to eat them, all Bernard really wants to get his jaws around is a jar of strawberry jam.
Sally Emery, co-owner of Beast In Show Books, said: “We are thrilled that Bernard is now an award-winning picture book. Rob’s illustrations and engaging rhyming prose have been entertaining preschoolers since its release at the end of last year; the addition of such an esteemed accolade ensures the book’s success going forward.”
Bernard is the first picture book to be published by Beast In Show Books. Copies are available locally from Salts Mill bookshop in Saltaire, The Grove Bookshop in Ilkley, and can be ordered online direct from Beast In Show Books or via Amazon UK recommended retail price £4.99.
