Invitation to pomp and circumstance

An orchestra conductor has promised a special evening to celebrate an annual summer concert.

The Leeds Symphony Orchestra has been playing at the King’s Hall, Ilkley, for 30 years, and returns once more later this month, with all profits from the event going to the NSPCC.

But conductor Martin Binks says this year’s event will be different to help mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and will be similar to the Last Night of the Proms.

“The programme will include well-known and well-loved music by Tchaikovsky, Berlioz, Dvorak, Handel, Elgar and Rossini,” he said.

The concert takes place at 7.30pm on June 29. Tickets cost £10, £8 for concessions and children can get in for free.

They are available at Grove Music at The Grove Bookshop in Ilkley, by calling (01943) 817301 or at the Ilkley Visitor Information Centre, Station Road, call (01943) 602319.
