It is with regret that we announce that Playhouse Creatures by April de Angelis, which was to have been presented in the Wildman studio by Blue Aces Theatre group this Saturday evening, has had to be cancelled.
Ilkley Playhouse is committed to encouraging touring theatre and will continue to offer opportunities for theatre companies to present their productions in our two theatre spaces.
In the meantime, rehearsals for The Real Thing, Tom Stoppard’s witty comedy drama, are well advanced. The show opens next Wednesday and runs for ten nights, excluding Sunday. Often viewed as having surprisingly autobiographical elements, Stoppard’s play concerns how marriages end and how new relationships begin and flourish, or founder. Few plays of recent times are quite so intelligent, funny or brutally honest. Our productions stars Geraldine Woodhouse, Lee Russell, Sarah Potter, Walter Swan, May Hughes, Will Lambert and Jason Evens.
The Playhouse social committee is presenting another Murder Mystery event on Saturday, June 23. Billed as Murder On’t Moor, guests will be invited to provide the solution to dastardly events in which the chairman of a local rambling society is found dead near the Twelve Apostles on Ilkley Moor. Come along and have fun, as well as a substantial picnic banquet, dressed in your finest walking garb, and assist PC Plodder in his investigation of the crime. Tickets are £12.50 each.
Looking further to the future, the final play of the current season will be Daphne du Maurier’s The Years Between, set in World War Two and its aftermath and concerns a woman whose husband, an MP, has gone missing during the war, presumed dead. Her life takes on a new direction when she takes on her husband’s political duties and begins a new relationship, but then her husband reappears. Partly based on actual events, The Years Between will guarantee a classy close to this year’s programme. Opening on Wednesday July 4, the show runs for ten nights.
Tickets for all the events can be booked by calling (01943) 609539 or going to ilkleyplayhouse.co.uk.
