Orchestral classics streaming in from the Northern Sinfonia

Venezuelan conductor Christian Vasquez
This Sunday sees Otley Courthouse’s first foray into the world of live streaming, and what a concert we’ve got!
Live from The Sage, Gateshead, Northern Sinfonia – one of the UK’s most exciting orchestras – perform a varied programme with Venezuelan conductor Christian Vasquez.
The programme comprises Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony, Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto no.1, Rachmaninov’s Vocalise and Bizet’s Symphony no.1 in C.
In particular, look out for the last of these. When someone stumbled on the score for Bizet’s Symphony in C in a dusty attic in 1935, the composer’s reputation changed forever.
It is a piece with a seemingly endless flow of singable melodies and a stream of joyous and impulsive rhythms all orchestrated with unmatched charm.
In this performance, Bizet’s Symphony is the perfect foil to the gags and japes of Shostakovich’s riotous Concerto.
This streaming brings a fantastic concert to Otley – it’s the closest you can be to being there – and we really hope you’ll join us for what should be a lovely evening.
We have Chez Vin’s spring Wine Fair at the Courthouse this Friday, and look out for next Friday, May 11, when we’re delighted to welcome Multi Story Theatre Company and their new play, Josh’s Monsters.
Transforming the Courtroom and telling the story of two parents whose son is about to fly to Afghanistan, you’ll find yourself sat in among the action (and being fed cake) as the tension unfolds around you.
Tickets are selling really fast for lots of the events in our Summer Programme, which includes Mark Steel, Phil Beer, Robin Ince, Shooglenifty and Dan Cassidy (brother of Eva). To get all the details and book tickets, call (01943) 467466 or check out otleycourthouse.org.uk
