Otley Chamber Orchestra (pictured) is looking forward to bringing the sounds of Spain to the town next weekend.

The group will perform Bizet's Carmen Suite No 1 when it holds its annual fundraising Spring concert at Otley Methodist Church's Wesley Hall on Sunday, March 25.

The piece, which includes the famous March Of The Toreadors, will feature the orchestra’s harpist, Heather Pollock, and percussionist Barbara Dane on tambourine and castanets.

The 7.30pm show, in aid of Otley Courthouse, will also include Beethoven’s Coriolanus Overture, Haydn’s Symphony no 104, and The Merry Wives Of Windsor overture, by Nicolai.

The orchestra has nearly 50 players from Otley and the surrounding area, and includes a full wind and brass section.

Conductor Tricia Restorick said: "It’s most unusual for a local orchestra to have their own harpist, and we‘re thrilled we are able to show off Heather’s skills in the Carmen Suite.

"This concert is a fantastic opportunity for local music lovers to hear great music. And it’s an ideal way to introduce children and young people to an orchestra for the first time, as anyone under 16 comes for free."

Tickets for the over 16s cost £7, or £5 with concessions, and are available online from otleycourthouse.org.uk or by calling (01943) 467466.
