An actress who has appeared in the West End is returning to her roots to take the lead role in an amateur production.
Joanna Clark was a well-known figure in amateur dramatics in Aireborough more than two decades ago when she starred in a number of local productions under her maiden name of Booth.
She went on to train professionally and appear in the West End and at theatres all over the country. She later gave up her professional career to bring up her young family, and returned to West Yorkshire.
Now she will play the title role for Yeadon Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society in its forthcoming production of the musical Sweet Charity in March.
Joanna will join David Kirk, who is in charge of his 15th production for the society.
They last worked together in 1991 on the UK’s amateur premiere of the musical The Rink, staged by the Barnstormers Theatre Company at Guiseley. David was the youth company’s founder, and Joanna Booth played a number of leading roles for the company.
Sweet Charity runs at Yeadon Town Hall from Tuesday, March 13, to Saturday, March 17, with performances at 7.15pm. Tickets can be reserved on 07570 610989.
