AN AL FRESCO performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream will be given in Otley next month.

The Shakespeare classic, in what the organisers believe is a first for the town, will be presented in Wharfemeadows Park on Thursday, July 6.

The outdoor show, which starts at 7.30pm - gates open at 6.30pm - is the result of a collaboration between the acclaimed Chapterhouse Theatre Company and Otley Courthouse.

The play follows the complicated love lives of four Athenians who have fled into an enchanted forest, unaware that it is inhabited by a warring fairy King and Queen.

Comedy and chaos ensue in a magical tale that includes star-crossed lovers, playful and mischievous imps and a hilarious band of travelling players.

The Chapterhouse production features specially designed Elizabethan costumes, an atmospheric musical score and a variety of enchanting looking woodland creatures.

Centre Manager at Otley Courthouse Rachael Savage says the audience can look forward to an evening of 'unmissable' summer garden theatre by the banks of the River Wharfe.

She said: "This is a great event for Otley and the local community and we are thrilled to be working with Otley Town Council to make it happen.

"Everything will be in place for a fabulous event, we just need to keep our fingers crossed for the weather!"

Spectators are being encouraged to bring along their own rugs or low-backed seating plus picnics to enjoy during the show, which is suitable for all ages.

Tickets cost £15 for adults, £10 for children or £44 for a family of two adults and two children, while a ten per cent discount is available for parties of ten or more.

Tickets can be booked by visiting otleycourthouse.org.uk, calling (01943) 467466 or popping into the Courthouse on Courthouse Street, Otley.
