A WHARFELDAE choir is hoping past members will join it for a special 10th anniversary concert.

Ilkley Moornotes Community Choir has grown since it was started in 2007 to now have more than fifty members.

Founder Dave Robinson put out the call for people to join the new group in the Ilkley Gazette ten years ago with a notice asking them to 'sing up if you want to hit the high notes'.

Twelve people attended the first meeting, held at the Quaker Meeting House, in Easter, 2007 and the choir staged its first concert, for family and friends, a few months later in July.

The choir has gone on to grow in size and strength and has sung at the Street Choirs Festival, Ilkley Summer Festival, the Grassington and Saltaire Festivals and as part of Ilkley Arts Festival.

It also leads renditions of On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at on Yorkshire Day and holds carol singing sessions around the town each Christmas.

Ilkley Moornotes committee member Margaret Cook said: "Here’s to the next ten years of singing and having fun!

"We now look forward to our Anniversary Concert on Saturday, May 13 in the Sanctuary at Christchurch, Ilkley which starts at 7.30pm.

"We will be singing songs from across our repertoire and we're hoping past members will join us for one or two songs.

"It should be a joyous celebration full of song!"

Other recent highlights for the group have included performing a bicycle inspired medley, composed by Musical Director Beccy Owen, for the 2014 Tour de France's arrival in Wharfedale.

And in 2016 the choir hosted a visit from La Canterie du Rey, the choir from Ilkley's twin town of Coutances, which included a joint concert and civic reception.

The choir is returning to Coutances in May this year as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations.
