MADDY Prior, the Queen of Folk and the voice of Steeleye Span, is coming to Otley on April 6.

She will perform with Giles Lewin and Hannah James, as the group 3 For Joy, at the Courthouse.

Songline magazine described the trio as an exultant meeting of generations and traditions, stamped with the strong musical personalities of each member.

Forty years from her emergence on the late 60s folk club circuit, Maddy Prior is one of the most enduring, influential and respected artists in British music.

She was at the forefront of fusing folk song with rock instrumentation and technique.

Steeleye dragged folk music into the electronic age and out of the backroom clubs, and in the age of the giant rock band dominated the charts with hit albums, gold discs and world tours.

Maddy Prior has a history of collaborating with unexpected musicians, looking to approach traditional and written material from interesting and varied perspectives.

Giles Lewin is an instrumentalist and singer with a classical background who was a founder member of leading modern folk band Bellowhead.

Clog dancer, accordion player and singer Hannah James is currently part of the group Lady Maisry and is a former member of Haworth’s Demon Barbers and Kerfuffle.
