CITY of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra returns to Leeds Town Hall to perform a concert of Russian and Italian music, on Saturday.

Under the baton of the young Italian conductor Daniele Rustioni, the orchestra accompanies soloist Roman Simovic in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, which featured in the recently launched drama series Mozart in the Jungle.

The orchestra also performs Respighi’s cinematic Fountains of Rome, and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No 4 (Italian), of which Mendelssohn said ‘it will be the jolliest piece I have ever done’.

Ukrainian violinist Roman Simovic began his studies with his father, before going on to gain a masters from the Moscow State Conservatoire.

His virtuosity and seemingly-inborn musicality, has since taken him throughout all continents performing on many of world’s leading stages including the Mariinsky hall in St Petersburg, Grand Opera House in Tel-Aviv and Barbican Hall in London to name a few.

Roman currently guest leads the London Symphony Orchestra where he often works with Russian maestro Valery Gergiev, who says: “Mr Simovic is the most promising violinist of his generation.”

Conductor, Daniele Rustioni was named Best Newcomer of the Year at the 2013 International Opera Awards. He was recently appointed Principal Conductor of the Opéra National de Lyon for its upcoming 2017/18 season, and is presently the Principal Conductor of the Orchestra della Toscana.

Daniele has conducted the BBC Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic, and in October 2015 after his debut with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra was immediately invited to appear again in the 2016/17 season.
