A GIRL At My Door, a gripping police story from South Korea, is Ilkley Film Society's next screening on Sunday, December 4 (8pm at Ilkley Playhouse).
Young-nam, a top Police Academy graduate, has been transferred for “misconduct” to a small village where she encounters Dohee, a young girl rejected by the community. She feels compelled to protect the girl from her family's abuse by letting her move in, but Dohee's drunken stepfather is determined to get her back at all costs. Unexpected narrative twists keep the audience guessing until the end.
Director July Jung is one of the few women directing films in South Korea, and this is her debut feature film. It received a three-minute standing ovation when it was shown at the Cannes Festival.
