SUCCESS is sweet for new band Citrus Heights who are launching an online EP on iTunes and Spotify this week.

The four piece, with Rawdon lead singer Jamie Kelly, started out two years ago under the name Venice and have rapidly grown a fan base.

They gained performing experience at open mics around Yeadon and Guiseley before branching out into some of the bigger venues in Leeds. The band's name was changed several months ago.

The four track EP, Sweet Things, was recorded and produced by Micky Dale from Embrace with input from band members. It is being launched on October 20.

Jamie described the EP as "Our middle ground sound. It is all about the chords and the melody. We take our influences from Prince and Michael Jackson and subconsciously from Jamiroquai."

As well as Jamie the band is made up of Ben Casey (guitar), from Bradford, Matt Dixon (bass guitar) and Pudsey's Luke Chambers (drums and vocals).

The Band members, all in their early 20s, met at Leeds College of Music. The self-written tracks are a co-operative effort.

"Ben brings the structure then he and Luke build on that and I add the melody and lyrics," Jamie said.

Speaking of the EP Jamie explained: "We have used some keys to thicken the sound a bit but we have tried to keep it quite raw and true to its roots. We are not afraid to diversify our sound and that is something we will be bearing in mind for the future of our sound."

In the summer the band played festivals at Tramlines in Sheffield, Ashcombury in Stoke and St Mark's in Leeds as well as winning the Kirkstall Festival Battle of the Bands at Kirkstall Abbey.

They played at Leeds Lights Night and performed their first Bradford gig at Underground. Their next gig is at HIFi in Leeds on November 11.

Jamie said the band had enjoyed playing Sofar Sounds, adding: "We want to make timeless music, songs that last and mean something to people. We try to be clever with every part of the song."
