THE all male singing group ‘Sing Your Rocks Off’ is proving that you do not need any musical experience to have a good sing. Now in their second year they are going from strength to strength and proving that singing is not exclusive. Anyone who enjoys belting out a song in the bath, the shower, the car or the football/rugby match is welcome to come along. No requirement to read music.
The atmosphere is informal and the emphasis is on having a good time. Ged Faricy, who runs the group, recognised that for some reason men are reluctant to join mixed community choirs, but do like a good sing so he started ‘Sing Your Rocks Off’. The repertoire is selected to appeal to men and the formula appears to be working
Ged said: “The most difficult thing for men is taking that first step after many years of believing, or being told that they do not have a voice. When pitched right all men can sing – honestly.”
The group meets upstairs in the Taps (The Ilkley Moor Vaults) every Wednesday at 7.45pm. Just grab a beer downstairs, bring it up to the upper lounge and join in. The autumn/winter sessions start on Wednesday, September 28.
Ged added: "No need to book ahead, just turn up on the night. You will be made most welcome by a friendly bunch of guys and I suspect you might surprise yourself!"
