NAMED as one of Classic FM’s “25 greatest pianists of all time”, international soloist Stephen Hough is one of the finest musicians in the world. His career has seen performances in some of the world’s finest concert halls and is set to make his 25th appearance at the BBC Proms on August 23.

Before he reaches this incredible landmark, Stephen will be joining Yorkshire Young Sinfonia to perform Rachmaninov’s devilish and ever-entertaining ‘Paganini’ Variations at Leeds Town Hall on Saturday August 20.

Yorkshire Young Sinfonia has a growing reputation for innovation and excellence in classical music education and uniquely brings together young musicians aged 12-18 from all over the Yorkshire and Humberside region for a week of intensive rehearsals with some of the UK’s leading professional musicians.

Sir Gary Verity, patron of Yorkshire Young Sinfonia and CEO Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “This tremendous orchestra showcases some of Yorkshire’s finest young musicians and provides them with a spring board to becoming the professional musicians of tomorrow. To be performing with one of the greatest solo pianists in the world will be an incredible experience for these musicians and one they will remember forever.”

The concert at Leeds Town Hall is the high point to an incredible 12 months for the orchestra. In September 2015, the orchestra received national attention as the subject of the BBC Radio 4 documentary “Birth of an Orchestra” with Alan Bennett.

In June this year, Yorkshire Young Sinfonia were named as one of the finalists in the Arts and Culture category of the White Rose Awards – the biggest tourism awards in the UK.

Stephen Hough and Yorkshire Young Sinfonia will perform at Leeds Town Hall, 7pm Saturday August 20.
