WORK by an Ilkley artist has been selected from more than 1,100 submissions to appear alongside paintings by some of Britain’s leading marine artists.

Nigel Overton will see his work displayed at The Royal Society of Marine Artists annual exhibition, which has come to be recognised as the most prestigious and varied exhibition of marine art in the UK.

The exhibition will be on display at Mall Galleries in central London between September 28 and October 8.

The theme is the sea and everything related to it, from beaches and creeks to harbours and boats. It will feature more than 400 works from emerging and well-established artists across a range of media, including oil painting, watercolour, pastels, prints and sculpture. All work is available for sale, so anyone can take some of the sea home with them.

Nigel, who will be part of the Ilkley Art Trail this year and will be showing his work and demonstrating at The Art Shop in South Hawksworth Street, Ilkley, is the former head of art and design at Benton Park School in Rawdon.

He now paints professionally and teaches day and residential classes. He works in a range of different media, concentrating more on acrylics in recent years.

The painting selected to be displayed in London is in black and white acrylics of East Cowes.
