THE YORKSHIRE Dales will be the setting for walks on Saturday, July 30 as part of a national celebration.

Campaigning organisation 38 Degrees and the charity Campaign For National Parks are teaming up for the event.

Members are hosting free organised walks covering history, landscape and wildlife, and natural art workshops, at every national park in England, Scotland and Wales.

A workshop, curated by land artist Richard Shilling and hosted by local artists, will explore the natural environment as people walk and work together.

Participants of all ages will collect abundant natural materials to create a unique piece of artwork.

Saturday’s events commemorate a campaign launched 80 years ago by a group of people to protect magnificent places across the UK.

The theme of the day is ‘inspired by nature’ and brings together experts from the natural world as well as the arts.

Maddy Carroll, campaign director at 38 Degrees, said: “The UK's national parks only exist because a group of people came together 80 years ago to protect them.

“38 Degrees is the biggest people-powered organisation in the UK, so this year we're teaming up with the Campaign for National Parks to help people enjoy these places in the height of summer, when they're at their most beautiful.”

Fiona Howie, chief executive of Campaign for National Parks, said: “For 80 years we have been in working hard to make sure some of Britain’s most beautiful landscapes are preserved for everyone to enjoy and are protected against threats that would have damaged what makes them so special.

“We’re delighted to be working with 38 Degrees again so that as many people as possible can get together and celebrate the true diversity and spectacular sights of the National Parks in the UK”
