AN exhibition – Ilkley and the Water Cure – arranged by Ilkley Civic Society and Mike Dixon opened at Ilkley Library on Monday, July 18 and will run through the summer until Saturday, September 3.

It will look at the popularity of hydrotherapy and the impact on the town of the growth of hydropathic establishments during Victorian times. At 2pm on Friday August 12 and Friday, August 19 there will also be a talk on Ilkley Hydros.

Running alongside this exhibition Ilkley Civic Society has organised a programme of Heritage Guided Walks between August 3 and August 24. As part of the Heritage Open Days events there will also be a guided walk to Middleton Calvary on Sunday, September 11. And there will be a post-Christmas walk looking at the Artisan Town on Wednesday, December 28.

The first two walks will be taking place on Wednesday, August 3. The first will be Ilkley Bath Charity & Charity Hospital – led by local historian Alex Cockshott – meet at 2pm outside the Visitor Information Centre, Town Hall, Station Road. The second will be Darwin’s visit to Ilkley – led by Mike Dixon – meeting at 7pm at Darwin Gardens car park on Wells Road.

On Friday, August 5 at 2pm Mike will lead a walk around the Manor House, meeting at the Manor House; Sunday, August 7 at 2pm meet at Darwin Gardens for an Ilkley Spa walk.

On Wednesday, August 10 meet Eddie Nash in the Cow and Calf car park at 2pm for Prehistoric Ilkley Moor walk and at 7pm on the same day Alex will lead a Hydros walk. Meet at the top gate of Ilkley Grammar School.

On Wednesday, August 17 John Cockshott will lead a walk entitled Olicana - the Roman Fort at Ilkley, meeting at the Manor House at 2pm. Ilkley Cemetery and Memorial Avenue will be led by Alex Cockshott on Sunday, August 21,meeting at Beanlands Parade Cemetery gates at 2pm.

Meet Helen Kidman at 2pm at Ben Rhydding Railway Station for Ben Rhyding Hydo walk on Wednesday, August 24. Middleton Calvary in the title of a walk on Sunday, September 11 at 2pm, meet at Langbar Road by the drive to Myddleton Grange.
