Endellion String Quartet closes its 2016 residency at The Venue, Leeds College of Music

The final concert of this year’s Eastern-influenced series sees the celebrated British string quartet perform Haydn’s Quartet Op 77, No 2, which ends with a Hungarian style section. The concert also features Bartók’s folk-inspired Quartet No 3 and Brahms’ Quartet No 2 which the composer described as “a useless trifle” to avoid commencing work on his much more serious first symphony.

Formed in 1979, the Endellion String Quartet is internationally renowned for its world-class performances, with its schedule seeing the quartet touring across the globe. The quartet has appeared at nearly all the major series and festivals and is regularly broadcast on BBC radio and television. The quartet’s various recordings have also been named Chamber Music Recording of the Year by both the Daily Telegraph and The Guardian, and have seen them win Radio 3’s Critics’ Choice and Editors Choice at the Gramophone Awards.

The Endellion String Quartet has held its popular residency at The Venue in Leeds since 2003, as well as being quartet in Residence at Cambridge University, Associate Quartet of the Royal Northern College of Music and undertaking several short-term residencies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA.
