BRACE yourselves Ilkley, for we have a mind blowing selection of films for you to feast upon this week. From June 17 to 23, we have crime drama Money Monster. Lee Gates (George Clooney) has made a name for himself as a financial TV guru, telling Americans where to invest their hard earned money. However, when Gates’ advice left himself and many others penniless, Kyle Budwell (Jack O’Connell) storms the TV studio and holds the presenter hostage live on air. It is up to Gates and his producer Patty (Julia Roberts), to disarm the young man and to help him find answers he so desperately seeks.

And for something completely different, we have the romantic-comedy Love and Friendship. Inspired by the Jane Austen novel, Lady Susan, portrayed by Kate Beckinsale, is a strong, seductive and scheming widow who seeks new husbands for herself and her daughter. This classic tale has been transformed into a hilarious period comedy, bringing one of Austen’s lesser known works fantastically to life.

Joining The Austen adaptation this week is drama thriller Son of Saul. László Nemes’ directorial debut follows the story of Jewish prisoner Saul Ausländer (Géza Röhrig) as he is forced to assist in the horrors at Auschwitz. In possibly the most horrific setting imaginable, Saul defies his captors to give a Jewish child a proper burial. This drama certainly is a harrowing subject, but scooping an Academy Award and the prestigious Grand Prix du Jury at the Cannes Film Festival, it is definitely an emotional, gripping experience worth watching.

Our Cult Classic Throwback Thursday is back once again and this time we are showing the timeless comedy Boogie Nights on June 23rd. Dressing up is optional (though strongly encouraged) and having a fun night with a few tipples is guaranteed!

On June 21st, we are rejoined once again by Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice and on June 22nd, we have a subtitled screening of The Audience. Finally, our Kid’s Club movie follows Remy’s unusual tale: a rat who aspires to be a Parisian chef in the lovable, laughable Ratatouille this Saturday.
