AIREDALE Symphony Orchestra will perform an evening of music from Russia at the Victoria Hall in Saltaire.

The choir, whose membership includes musicians from Keighley, can be seen on June 26 at 7.30pm.

The programme includes the Masquerade Suite by Khachaturian, the Violin Concerto No 2 in G minor by Prokofiev, and the Symphony No 2 in E minor by Rachmaninov.

A spokesman said: “The programme starts with the fun and light-hearted Masquerade Suite by Khachaturian.

“The orchestra is then joined by the gifted young violinist Galya Bisengalieva to play Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No 2 in G minor.

“During the second half of the evening, the orchestra will play Rachmaninov’s Symphony No 2, demonstrating the melodic genius of one of the great Russian composers.”

Tickets cost £12 for adults, £10 and £6 for concessions, and free for under-11s.

Airedale Symphony Orchestra dates back to 1898 and was originally known as the Keighley and District Orchestral Society, changing its name in 1982.

Among the many celebrities who have performed with the orchestra over its long history are Isobel Baillie, Percy Grainger, Leon Goossens, Lady Barbirolli, Dennis Brain and Sir Henry Wood.

Since 1982 the ASO has largely played to near capacity audiences.
