SUSPICIOUS spies, super humans and smashing adventures will guarantee an exciting time this week at Ilkley Cinema, from June 10 to16.

Who knew that a simple holiday to Marrakech would end up in you being dragged into the dark underbelly of the Russian Mafia? This is exactly the predicament that Perry Makepeace and his girlfriend Gail (Ewan McGregor and Naomie Harris respectively) find themselves in during this adaptation of John le Carre’s novel Our Kind of Traitor. Starring Damian Lewis and Stellan Skarsgård, the couple are torn between the Russian forces and the British Secret Service, neither of which are entirely trustworthy in this exhilarating spy thriller.

The X-Men are back to save the world in their latest superhero outing: X-Men: Apocalypse. When the first powerful mutant Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) rises after thousands of years, he recruits Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and other mutants to help create a new world order. But since this will see the destruction of all mankind, Professor X (James McAvoy) and his gifted youngsters fight back to protect the Earth from the seemingly invincible nemesis. Who will remain victorious in this magnificent Marvel comic classic?

The Jungle Book will also be shown for another week, so there’s still chance to bring the kids to see the lovable Mowgli and his animal friends. We will also be graced by royalty, or the nearest thing to it, with an encore of National Theatre’s The Audience starring Helen Mirren on Tuesday 14.

Finally, we have another exceptional masterpiece from The Globe, with Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice screening live on Thursday, June 16. Showing you should always be careful who you borrow money from, Bassiano asks for a loan from his friend Antonio to win the heart of his beloved Portia. Antonio in turn borrows from moneylender Shylock which will be repaid when his ships return. But if it cannot be repaid in gold, Shylock will take what is owed in blood. This unforgettable tale of justice, mercy and consumption, starring Jonathan Pryce, is definitely one not to miss.
