A TOTAL of 65 five artists from around the region have been selected to take part in the growing Ilkley Art Trail this year.

Selectors have announced the line-up of artists who will exhibit their work at all manner of venues around Ilkley this October.

Organisers of the annual trail, which uses artists' homes, businesses and other spaces as temporary gallery, put a call out earlier this year for artists interested in taking part to make submissions, which were then assessed by a panel of selectors.

"More artists submitted this year than ever before and we are very excited about the quality and range of artists who have been selected this year’ said Sarah Thomas, Chairman of Ilkley Arts.

This year there will be a broad mix of painting in oils, acrylic and watercolours, sculpture, jewellery, glass, textiles, photography, printmaking, leatherwork, bookbinding, wood turning and more.

Sarah added: "‘We are close to finalising all the venues for this year’s Trail and we have been very fortunate to have been offered a number of new venues. The Ilkley Toy Museum are opening their doors for the four days of the Trail and waiving their admission charge for these days which will make it a great venue for everyone and especially families.

‘We are also going to be able to use two new art studios that will be opening in Ilkley soon. One is in the Old Cornmill and the other is Ilkley Arts' own new studio in Back Nelson Road. We will letting everyone know more about the studio space we get nearer to the Trail."

In total there will be 26 venues around Ilkley being used, many of them near the centre of the town, although the Trail will again feature two artists in Addingham, too.

The Trail will also be hosting a number of workshops and fringe events this year too.

Ilkley Arts director, Lorna Bird, said: "We are really pleased that we will be able to extend the programme of events this year and we hope that there will be something for everyone to enjoy during the run up to and during the 4 days of the Trail."

The Trail will run from Thursday October 6 to Sunday October 9.
