ILKLEY Film Society ends its current season on Sunday, May 29 with the Swedish comedy The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window And Disappeared (Ilkley Playhouse, 8pm).

Allan Karlsson is awaiting his 100th birthday in a nursing home, after a life in which he has been personally acquainted with most of the major figures of the 20th century. His behind-the-scenes activities have included saving Winston Churchill from assassination and helping to invent the atom bomb. He decides to miss the party and escape for one last adventure which turns out to involve a suitcase full of drug money, an incompetent cop and an elephant.

Taken from Jonas Jonasson's novel, which sold three million copies even before it was published in Britain and the USA, Felix Herngren's Oscar-nominated film has been released in 40 countries and makes an appropriately celebratory end to the society's 47th successful season. “Wine and nibbles” will be provided free from 7:15pm.

Non-members are requested to reserve tickets (£4) by phoning Dave Howell on 01943 430097. Prospective new members for next season should email contact details to membership@ilkleyfilmsociety.org.uk in order to receive application forms and information about next season.
