WE have a wonderful mix of dramatic, moving films and unmissable live events this week at Ilkley Cinema.

From May 13 – 19 we continue to show the unlikeliest of triumphant stories in Eddie the Eagle alongside drama thriller Eye in the Sky. Starring Britain’s finest Helen Mirren and Alan Rickman in his final acting performance, a colonel and lieutenant general order a drone missile strike against Kenyan terrorists. This film explores the ethics of military attack against terrorists and the implications it has on a civilian population. To say this film is current would be an understatement, and is an insightful look into the people who make the tough decisions that benefit the world and save lives.

Joining the military drama is Cold War thriller/romance Despite the Falling Snow. Based on Shamim Sarif’s novel, Rebecca Ferguson stars as Katya, a female spy in 1950’s Russia whose mission it is to steal secrets from rising politician Alexander (Sam Reid). But when she falls in love with him, Katya sacrifices her communist beliefs to follow her heart.

The world premiere of the Royal Ballet’s Frankenstein is being screened live from the Royal Opera House on May 18. This Gothic tale of Dr Victor Frankenstein’s torment in creating life from the deceased and The Creature’s strife for acceptance is retold in a new and exciting fashion. This is guaranteed to be one beautiful dark ballet not to miss.

We are also showing the latest in The Globe on Screen saga: Measure for Measure on May 19. The tale of hypocrisy, sexual politics and injustice in Vienna is one of Shakespeare’s lesser known classics. So why delay, buy your tickets for this incredible play and experience The Globe in all its glory, but without the tumultuous weather and with much more comfortable seating. Let’s celebrate the 400th anniversary of The Bard’s passing at Ilkley Cinema.

Finally, for this Saturday’s Kids Club we are showing one of Disney’s latest classics Wreck-It Ralph. So be a hero and bring the children down to Ilkley Cinema this weekend for a smashing time.
