A CLASSIC VW took pride of place in a photoshoot to publicise a drama group's latest production.

The 1971 VW 1200 was spotted at a Guiseley petrol station by photographer John Waite who handles publicity for Guiseley Amateur Operatic Society.

The society's latest production is Footloose, and in the original 1984 movie an iconic VW was driven by Kevin Bacon - so the car seemed like the perfect prop for pre-show photos.

Now its owners Andy Summers and his daughter Harriet Summers, from Guiseley, will enjoy free tickets to the show after allowing their vehicle to be used.

John said: "I saw this beautiful car at BP in Guiseley. I asked the owner if we could use it and he said he would love to. We got him a few tickets for the show."

Bacon's character Ren is played by Matt Gardner in the production at Guiseley Theatre. It will be Matt's last performance for GAOS as he is relocating to London and is currently commuting between Yorkshire and the capital to take part in rehearsals.

Based on the 1984 musical film made famous by stars Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer the show tells the story of Ren McCormack (Matt Gardner) an upbeat Chicago teen who moves to a small town where dancing and rock music have been banned by the town council as a result of the efforts of the church minister Rev Shaw Moore (David Kirk). The minister's rebellious daughter, Ariel (Harriet Chaplin), and Ren, become romantically involved despite the presence of her abusive boyfriend Chuck Cranston (David Carr).

The show follows the story of their efforts to overturn the ban on music and dance. The show and film are loosely based on actual events that took place in a small, rural, and religious community in Oklahoma. The film was adapted into a stage musical in 1998 and was nominated for a number of Tony awards.

The show features well know musical numbers such as Holding Out For a Hero, Somebody's Eyes, Let’s Hear it For The Boy, Mama Says and Footloose.

A spokesman said: "The principle actors are superbly supported by a fine ensemble and with exciting choreography by Ted Oxley Kirk, the vibrant musical score arranged and conducted by Catherine Sweet and the show directed by the visionary director Jay Cundall Walker this is a show that will have the audience rocking, laughing, crying and dancing in their seats. Footloose is a show not to be missed."

The show runs at Guiseley Theatre from Monday, February 22 to Saturday, February 27 at 7.30pm. A Saturday matinee will be staged at 2.15pm. Tickets are available from www.gaos.co.uk or from the box office on 01132 506434 or 07502 349325.
