ROCK stars Kaiser Chiefs will support a pair of children’s charities with a special gig in front of a home crowd.

The Leeds superstars will perform a gig to raise money for CLIC Sargent and Leeds Children’s Charity. Profits from the one-off gig, at the Leeds O2 Academy on December 10, will be split between the two causes.

CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. They provide emotional, practical, financial and clinical support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life.

Bassist Simon Rix, who went to school at St Mary's in Menston, has supported CLIC Sargent in the past, working with and mentoring young people who have been affected by cancer, in musical workshops aimed at improving self confidence and expression.

Rix said: “I have seen first hand the great benefits that this charity’s work can have for the young people it works with. I’ve taken part in music workshops and it’s been a fantastic experience to see the positive effect on young people who have been through so much.”

Phil Day, music coordinator at CLIC Sargent, said: “We are hugely grateful to have been chosen by Kaiser Chiefs to benefit from the proceeds of this concert. The money raised will provide vital funds which will help us provide support for children and young people affected by cancer, and their families.

“Simon has put in some brilliant work with us, spending time with young people and helping them express themselves and develop their talents through music. This gig represents another wonderful show of support from the band.”

Leeds Children’s Charity provides trips for children who suffer from poverty, neglect, abuse, learning difficulties and illness, or are young carers, to its holiday centre in Silverdale.

Dave Norman MBE, director of Leeds Children’s Charity, said: “We are both excited and humbled by the offer made to us by the Kaiser Chiefs. As one of the oldest charities in Leeds it is fantastic that our work is being supported by such a brilliant local band.

“We are also honoured to share the billing with CLIC Sargent, as both our organisations work with young people who are in need of support. The Kaiser Chiefs are doing something very special for the young people of Leeds in December and on behalf of Leeds Children’s Charity I would like to say thank you.”
