SUMMER in Ilkley means tourists on The Grove, picnics by the river and maybe a dip in the Lido but at Ilkley Playhouse it’s a case of “no rest for the wicked” as over the next few weeks there is a chance to catch up with the housekeeping before the season begins in September.
So, volunteers have been cleaning, checking out technical equipment and generally tidying up the theatre before the Ilkley Players head off to the Minack Theatre on the cliffs at Porthcurno, West Cornwall to reprise The Ladykillers for the Cornish holidaymakers.
Such a major exercise requires a lot of planning and accommodation was booked a long time ago, then it’s a case of moving sets, technical gear, costumes etc - not forgetting the cast, crew and volunteers lock, stock and barrel to Cornwall. The Ladykillers is playing for seven performances at the Minack Theatre from Monday, August 31 to Friday, September 4.

At the time of writing the Stagefright Comedy Club Special on August 9 at 7pm was almost sold out. This was no surprise as it’s a great line up and both Chris Ramsey and Jason Cook have a huge following here in the north. Check if any tickets remain on 01943 609539.
The next Wharfeside production is Dead Guilty by Richard Harris, running from September 16 to 26 at 7.30pm with a matinee only on September 19 at 2.30pm.
Directed by Stephen Mason this tense psychological story of murder, guilt and obsession is sure to get the season off to a flying start.
Tickets £11 and concessions, £9.
