COUNCILLORS in Guiseley are vowing to do all they can to help a cricket club recover from a “disgraceful” vandal attack.
As reported last week, at least £500-worth of damage was caused to a cricket screen at Green Lane Cricket Club during the incident.
A memorial tree at Nunroyd Park, planted in memory of local woman Patricia Anne Jackson, was also snapped in two.
Now ward councillors are aiming to help pay for the cricket screen’s replacement by using their Members Improvements in the Community and Environment (MICE) funds.
Councillor Paul Wadsworth (Con, Guiseley & Rawdon) said: “The damaged screen will be a hard blow for the cricket club, just before the start of the season, it has suffered several acts of vandalism over the years.
“We are hoping to make a donation towards its replacement from our MICE funds which will, hopefully, ensure the club’s fundraising efforts get off to a good start.”
