TOMORROW night is opening night for the 2015 Upstagers pantomime, Dick Whittington.

The Ilkley theatre group returns to the King’s Hall with its ever-popular annual pantomime for all the family, complete with dancing, singing and fun.

The storyline follows the tale of young Dick Whittington, who is off to London to seek fame and fortune – but he’ll need some help from the audience.

Families are encouraged to sing along as the hero and his trusty sidekick Puss travel to exotic lands and strange new places. Along the way, Dick falls in love with the beautiful Alice and he and his cat travel to exotic lands, where they encounter King Rat and his gang of vermin.

Will he defeat the villain? Will he win the love of beautiful Alice? And will he find his fortune?

The largest Upstagers cast of 90 local young people with oodles of talent and energy promise musical numbers for all, exciting dance routines, family fun in abundance and lots of opportunities to hiss and boo.

Ten performances will take place at the King’s Hall, including matinee performances, which start at 2.15pm, on Saturday, January 24; Sunday, January 25; and Saturday, January 31.

The production will be the Upstagers’ 28th annual pantomime.

A youth theatre group founded in 1987, the Upstagers typically put on three main shows a year – a pantomime, a spring show and a summer show. The group is a registered charity, run by a team of volunteers.

It also runs Dramovox youth theatre classes, giving quality performance arts training.

Tickets for Dick Whittington are £15 or £12 concessions. Discounts are available online.
