A CANADIAN jazz trio is coming to Ilkley Playhouse this month.

Reviewers of My Sweet Patootie, who are performing at Ilkley Playhouse on August 30, describe its music as a "delightful combination of jazzy guitar, Hot Club violin, luscious strings, horns and harmony vocals".

Ontario-based, it has performed in dozens of venues in the US and Canada.

The vintage style song writing is rooted in folk and Americana but heavily influenced by the likes of Chet Atkins and the Andrews Sisters. It also takes inspiration from artists like Patsy Cline and Hank Williams.

Sandra Swannell is a classically trained violinist but her style owes much more to the influences of Joe Venti and Stefan Grappelli. Terry Young is described as an ‘acoustic guitar god’ he has taught advanced finger style guitar and written about his technique in several magazines. He is also classically trained.

The band’s name ‘My Sweet Patootie’ is a term of endearment popular in the 1920s and 30s meaning a hot dame or a sassy sweetheart. MSP released its third album ‘Good Day’ in 2013. It features each member’s skills as multi-instrumentalists yet still remains true to their live sound as the trio.

This winning combination of world-class musicians and superb entertainers will be a great night out that will raise the spirits and set your feet tapping. Showing at The Wharfeside, Saturday 30th August at 7.30pm, tickets adults £10 (students £5)
