FOR a family adventure filled with interactive playgrounds and sculptures designed to fuel the imagination of both children and adults alike, try Stockeld Park this summer.

Nestled within woodland between Harrogate and Leeds it is packed with plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun and indoor play throughout the holidays.

The parkland is filled with adventure zones that include imaginative play in the enchanted forest, a giant inflatable slide and jumping pillows for trampoline fun, chopper go karts and an electric scooter trail.

Farmer Foster's Barnyard provides youngsters with a whole host of beautifully-crafted wooden play equipment, including tractors, trailers and a train, that give ample chance for climbing and clambering about.

An outdoor roller rink with retro skates hosts a roller disco on Saturday nights and a giant maze has more than three miles of paths to get lost in. This summer it is also home to some naughty gnomes, which if you tick them off on your worksheet, could see you winning a prize of a life-size chocolate welly.

When wet weather threatens there are still lots of things to entertain, with an indoor play area including another giant jumping pillow and an inflatable bouncer, traditional arcade game machines and the Stockeld Express to explore. Creative crafts are also available next to the gift emporium, which offers toys and treats.

The woodland cafe serves home made food and there are also treats available at the lake view cafe and Gretel's cabin. Alternatively picnics can be enjoyed on the field with benches dotted around, and there is plenty of space for children to run around and enjoy outdoor games.

When we arrived on a special preview day our young adventurers quickly got stuck in to the skilfully-crafted wooden play equipment, whooshing down the attached slides. The tractor and train - and particularly the tunnel - were a hit with both ages. The giant inflatable slide proved a big draw too, but a helping hand was required from daddy to ensure our eldest made it to the top. All the family then managed to thoroughly enjoy the outdoor jumping pillows, bouncing around from one side to the other. But beware no trampoline acrobatics are allowed.

From there we headed to the maze, which we definitely underestimated. Without the help of another family who had thought to take a snap of the maze map on their mobile, we might still be found wandering its paths today.

Exploring the enchanted forest we were happy to discover a number of different themed play areas along the route. Of particular interest to our boys were the tepee encampment and woodsands cove, both equipped with yet more fantastic wooden play equipment - this time tepee tents and boats in the respective areas.

A friendly talking tree and enchanting cottages provided much interest, as well as the musical chimes located along the forest route.

Even tired young legs managed to race from one exciting instalment to the next, whether it was climbing up inside a house made from a boot, swooshing down the teapot slide or ringing the bell at Grandma's house.

It would be easy to spend the whole day at Stockeld Park and still not fit in everything on offer. We left without trying our hand at the electric scooter trail and chopper go karts, but our boys were tired out from an adventurous and magical day out.

The summer adventure runs until September 1 and there is a special event taking place on Friday, August 1, to mark Yorkshire Day with a giant tea party, magical entertainment, treasure hunt and Magic Hatter magic shows. You can buy a ticket to sit at the magical tea party table (£4 for children and £5 for adults) and enjoy tea and treats served by Wonderland characters and the Magic Hatter himself. Proceeds from the event will benefit Yorkshire Cancer Research.

After the summer adventure has ended Stockeld Park reopens for a Halloween and Christmas Adventure from October 22 to January 6, with a magical illuminated enchanted forest, fun filled maze, outdoor ice rink, and Nordic ski trail. In addition there will be a Santa’s Grotto and Christmas gift emporium and a number of events including Santa's arrival sleigh parade on November 15 and 16.
