Local band The Dunwells have just been added to the line-up for one of America’s biggest festivals Bonaroo but it is a home-town gig they are most looking forward to.

The four-piece are currently on their Light Up The Skies UK Tour and have Hull, Manchester and Glasgow to fit in before they arrive back in Leeds to play Leeds Town Hall on Friday, April 25.

The band, recently in America on The Rock Boat – a cruise ship which hosts 25 bands and takes music lovers to the Cayman Islands – will be pulling out all the stops to make sure their Leeds Town Hall gig is a memorable occasion.

Formed in 2010, the band have played most venues in and around the city including The Cockpit, The Brudenell and The Wardrobe but they are viewing the Town Hall gig as the most spectacular of all.

They will be supported by the highly-acclaimed Leeds singer Hannah Trigwell and Bradford band Man Can’t Fly.

Pudsey’s Dave Dunwell, one of three members of the band who were educated at St Mary’s School, Menston, shares lead vocals with his younger brother Joseph.

He said: “We wanted a spectacular end to our UK Tour and we feel that there is nothing in Leeds, or anywhere else for that matter, as spectacular as the interior of Leeds Town Hall. It truly is a venue that the city can be proud of and we are privileged to play there.”

Joseph, a former student at Leeds College of Music, added: “Leeds is the last show on our UK tour and we are aiming to go out with a bang. We have lots of new material having just been in the studio recording our next album and the show will have lots of energy.

“We recently played live on BBC1’s Andrew Marr Show and we have played on the Jay Leno Show on American television but this is the big one for us.

The Dunwells earned themselves a recording contract with American label Playing In Traffic and spend much of their time in America having played big events such as Lollapalooza and Red Rock. Last summer they played UK festivals such as Cropredy and Bingley Live.
