Next week’s Ilkley Concert Club event brings five wind players at the peak of their powers to the town: the lively and entertaining Galliard Wind Ensemble is one of Britain’s leading chamber groups and will be performing at the King’s Hall on Wednesday, April 9.

Their rich varied programme ranges from a Fantasie by Mozart, originally written for a mechanical organ, to Mississippi Five, a suite written by Jim Parker as a tribute to New Orleans jazz.

In addition the ensemble will play a quintet by Reicha, a lifelong friend of Beethoven; pieces for solo flute and clarinet by Stravinsky and Debussy and a Wind Quintet by Françaix. For full details of the programme visit the club website at concertclub.ilkley.org.

The concert will be popular, but tickets will be available from Jennie Rundle on (01943) 609045 up to the day of the concert (call between 10 am and 7 pm).
