Brian Harvey Ellison, a pupil at Prince Henry’s Grammar School in Otley from 1963 to 1968 and who went on to appear in The Glitter Band in the 1970s, is returning to West Yorkshire on March 8 with his friend John Rossall.

John, along with Harvey, are the original founder members of the fabulous Glitter Band that went on to sell millions with their own singles and albums in the 1970s.

John and the late Gerry Shephard wrote some of their biggest and most memorable hits, such as Angel Face, Goodbye My Love, Just For You and Let’s Get Together Again.

John has been touring now for over a decade with Harvey, who is lead saxophonist with the group as well as playing guitar on some numbers.

Harvey and John continue to keep those classic hits alive, along with other great Glitter Glam Rock classics which they played a major part in.

Harvey was from a farming family at Norwood but from an early age had a keen interest in music and on leaving school in 1968 went on to form his own local band, Ellison’s Hog Line, a powerful soul band, who readers will remember playing at venues in the area including the Stoney Lea at Ilkley, which was demolished in 2006 and is now Tarn Court.

During January 1969 the band backed Billy Stewart of Summertime and Sitting In The Park fame followed by another three- week tour in May 1969 backing Inez and Charlie Foxx of Mockingbird, Tightrope and Hurt By Love fame.

The tour included a live Radio One Club from Birmingham, a festival at Skegness Football Ground, an appearance at La Valbonne in London with Steven Stills in the audience and a show at Annabelle’s in London, when both Doris Troy and Billy Preston sang with the band.

The band then went straight to Italy for a season playing the clubs.

After this Harvey left to join Root ‘n’ Jenny Jackson as one of their backing musicians, which led to him meeting John Rossall and eventually forming the Glitter Band when Gary Glitter approached them to back him on tour in 1973.

The Glitter Band had six Top 10 singles, peaking at number two with Goodbye My Love, plus two Top 20 albums.

They were regulars on Top of the Pops between 1974 and 1977.

The Angel Face 40th Anniversary event is at Warehouse 23, 23 Smyth Street, Wakefield, WF1 1ED, on Saturday, March 8.

Support band The Kingcrows kick off proceedings at 7.30pm with The Glitter Band expected on stage at about 8.30pm.
