Shakespeare with a difference is the subject of the powerful Italian documentary-drama Caesar Must Die, which is Ilkley Film Society’s next presentation, at 8pm on Sunday, at Ilkley Playhouse.

The film follows a production of Julius Caesar in which all the parts are played by inmates of Rome’s Rebibbia Prison.

The murderers, mafiosi and other criminals involved in the play bring to their interpretations of Shakespearean roles insights gained from their own lives. Directed by brothers Paolo & Vittorio Taviani, veterans of 50 years of film-making, Caesar Must Die won the top prize at the Berlin Film Festival Guest tickets for non-members of the Film Society cost £4 (£2 for students) and can be reserved by telephoning Richard Fort on (01535) 653471.
