ILKLEY Grammar School pupils were keen to support Children in Need when a fancy dress three legged race was held in the town in 1989.

A record year for the Ilkley Book Club. Books purchased and paid for totalled 429 of which 83 per cent were novels. Issues for year totalled 6,263 volumes, an increase of 1,198 on the previous year and 91 per cent of books issued were fiction.

Ilkley Grammar School facilities for medical study. The Royal College of Physicians and Royal College of Surgeons have added the school to the list of institutions recognized by the conjoint Medical Board for preliminary instruction of medical students in chemistry and physics. Boys hoping to become doctors will be saved in some cases a whole year in their professional training.
